Sauvaka Consultancy Projects

"Indigenous people have been practising sustainability and resilience for thousands of years, but this knowledge is often overlooked"

The Sauvaka Consultancy plays a significant role in internationally funded programmes directed towards climate change preparation and mitigation in Fiji and the South Pacific.

Working in conjunction with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)  we have had a vital role advising on the different implications that climate justice, 'loss and damage' and relocation has for iTaukei women and children.

Other areas of our work centre on a  continued and focused mission to preserve and advocate for Indigenous Fijian knowledge and engagement. We are commonly engaged in the exploration and communication of iTaukei Arts and Culture  with various South Pacific museums, translation as well as other manifestations of Fijian cultural heritage.

All our projects are completed with meticulous and agile methodologies to promote sustainable practices within traditional frameworks.

Sauvaka in the media

Simione Sevudredre was featured in a short film by the National Trust Organisation 'SENTINELS - Protecting Fiji's Heritage Trees' .  As one of Fiji's best known advocates for environmental protection Simione discusses the Fijian totem trees, the power of the humble coconut and the virtues of living a nature based identity.

The Sauvaka Culture Consultancy also facilitated a workshop on the performing arts (MEKE) funded by the International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage, under the auspice of UNESCO and the department of National Heritage, Arts and Culture in Fiji.

Siminone Sevudredre featured as a guest on the   Fiji BC Video Podcast Series in his position as the Principal Cultural Officer at the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.  Here he talks as a 'tour guide' to historical Fiji and in this specific episode, on the importance of the arts and the significance of offerings to the Chief of the Village.
